AIR's Multifandom Quilt progress

I got a lot done this past month!  I'm hoping to get these put together before December, but we'll see.

AIR got her name (Artist in Residence) because she has always had a huge love for art.  The paint tubes came from a non-FiS freebie pattern over at Craftsy and they went together really easily.  The ravenclaw came from the 5"patterns in the HP extras section from the FiS page.

This Malificent is an amazing pattern -- I made it during testing process and there were a few issues with getting it to line up.  It was appropriate for AIR since we call her Malificent as a play on her name as well as her love for the movie.  I've done the stitching here - I think one of the hardest parts of the pattern was getting skin tones that were different enough, without being too different.

Smaug.  He's not called the Terrible for nothing!  The original pattern does not have a book, so it took a little creative sketching on the pattern before assembling to get it in there.  This was my first attempt at adding something that wasn't original to the pattern, so it's a little wonky - but I'm happy with the overall effect.

Alice at the door is a TweLoQ pattern from FiS that I pattern tested.  This was a tough pattern to get lined up, but worth the time it took.

I began doing some purposely fussycut spines in this quilt - how fun is that preggy woman!

The Sonic Screwdriver and wand in homage to her faves of Dr. Who and Harry - I did the screwdriver as is on the pattern for size, but changed the colors.  The glass they are sitting in wasn't exactly as I wanted, but worked.

Bebe's quilt progress

We're making headway!  I feel like all I do anymore is quilt!!  Here's more of the squares from her Christmas Multifandom
a part of the regular PoD, I actually made a mistake leaving the left side on the bottom of this feather, but I liked the distinction from other quills I've sewn, so I left it!

You can't see it but those snitch wings are metallic - I like the effect it has in person - and those book spines - THAT is so Bebe!!  I love the contrast of them stacked!

Olaf - oh, Olaf.  I wasn't sure if I'd still have sanity at the end of Olaf.  I had to reduce down the pattern 1/2 size to get him to fit (which makes him a total of 5 inches) and let's just say that those twigs are TINY!  Happy with the result tho.

The Championship Egg - I was really surprised at how quickly this pattern came together and while I wish I'd enlarged it now, it worked.  Pattern from the FiS HP extras.

Artist in Residence quilt

I've got Bebe's quilt started, and thought I should give a glimpse of some of AIR's quilt too

AIR loved beauty and the beast but I didn't want the obvious cloche design, so I enlarged the pattern and set it on top of books.

Homage to Dr. Who :)

This pattern was created for my project by the amazing Michelle Thompson.  I had to do some resizing to get her just right but she is spectacular!!

Homage to AIR's love of LOTR (for the life of me I could NOT get those stinking cloaks to line up exact!  Ah well, that's my moment of imperfection!)

And for a not so obvious tip of the hat to Twilight - a framed picture on top of books is enough that she remembers the story :)

Bebe's Multifandom quilt

So - progress on Bebe's quilt.....Here's the first 10

I borrowed the fishbowl from THIS pattern, and then replaced the fish with Dory  (sized down) since it made more sense for Bebe.  I didn't get the water lined up exact, but I don't think it was an issue at all.  I started with the fish (drawing the water line around it since the original pattern didn't really have any lines) and then incorporated that central piece (you can kind of see it in the picture) into the fishbowl pattern.

I incorporated two Beauty and the Beast references on her quilt - Chip (the teacup) and the Rose under cloche.  Both from FiS

Alice in Wonderland's cat Dinah was always a fascinating cat!  Bebe has a real affinity for cats in general so it doubles in meaning for her.  I need to do the stitching still.

Minions Minions Minions - Can I say I love that she's still not too old to enjoy these minions?  Sewed pattern as is in size, and then propped him on a box to fill the square a bit.  The felix felicis vial is also an extra HP pattern from the FiS site.

Probably one of the hardest patterns to date - this Mandrake takes a LOT of time and patience.  Sewn as is on pattern - there is no pot, so the pot here is added by yours truly. Pattern from the Fis extras.

Christmas is coming...

Now that I've made my first ever quilt, I really want to make some for my kids.  I feel a bit rushed since I'm starting so late in the year, but I'd like to play with the concept of using the bookcase idea from the Project of Doom and put in some special pieces that are uniquely them.  Both girls will leave home this winter - so this way they will have some Mom with them :)

I'm thinking I'll have to take a look over at fandominstitches.com and see if I can find enough of what I want!!  Here's to planning!!  I always start with a wishlist of patterns - In addition to the PoD items, right now what I"m looking for the following for each of them.

AIR - Dr. Who, Twilight, Kiki, Jessie (Toy Story), Totoro, Sherlock, Paint tubes, Violin, Phantom of the Opera, Cinderella, Tangled, Jack Sparrow, Piratey things, Alice in Wonderland

Bebe - Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, Dr. Who, Polar Bears, Minions, Twilight, Wicked, Dory, Eva, Frozen, Faeries

***Note***
I feel so grateful for contacts and friends I've developed through the FiS family - I couldn't find patterns for things like Kiki and Jessie or the Phantom mask and it's thanks to Michelle Thompson for designing patterns specific to my project!  She's amazing.  Her time is limited, but she does take requests through her website.

Hogwarts wall hanging /back of my PoD?

So I stumbled across Owlsea's Harry Potter Castle Quilt (isn't it GORGEOUS?)

and she'd posted this new large (36x36") Hogwarts Crest pattern for testing and I couldn't resist.

So I went and picked out fabric (one of the best parts of the process)

It took a bit - and it was really a challenge, but I finally got it done!   I'm happy with it.  I think it will be spectacular on the back of my PoD.  Title was painted using Matte tulip fabric paint.

Jeans and Tee quilt

When my girls started Middle school I found a great quilt online that used up old jeans and important t-shirts that kids don't want to get rid of without having them take up precious drawer space!  My youngest daughter wanted to make something crafty for her personal progress project in young women so we sat down and collected all the t-shirts she had accumulated in drama, beta, choirs, YW camps, and other trips and set out to make a very fun quilt!  Here's the result!  It is put together using the rag quilt method which was a great beginner quilt!
