Hamilton

I've had lots of questions as people begin to work through these patterns.  These patterns have been tested, but may still have flaws or problem areas.  If something comes up, please feel free to contact me for resolution/fix.  I usually work on quilt-related things in the evening since I have a regular full-time job.  You can also see some of these patterns on fandominstitches.com

If you are a new/beginner to paper piecing quilter, there are a couple of great tutorials HERE and HERE.  These are NOT my tutorials but they are the tutorials that taught me how to paper piece.  If you want to join other fandom quilters you can also join the Fandominstitches Facebook Group - they are a great resource for help!

Some suggestions from me:

1. Do not take papers off the backs of your patterns before assembly the whole quilt!  Leaving the papers helps with alignment and helps to prevent stretch during quilt assembly.  I do however, remove the papers in the seams during assembly of each block to remove bulk.

2. If during assembly things begin to go out of square, DON"T PANIC!!! This happens when you are putting together a lot of little pieces!  If I'm unsure about how something will line up, I will use a basting stitch and understitch the line slightly.  This helps with easy seam ripping if it's not what you want.  When it is in place, go back to your small stitches and stitch on the line.

3. For designing patterns I use a program called Quilt Assistant (Free, restricted use).

4. The sewing method I use is listed by sections that need to be put together and then those sections are joined to slightly larger groups until the whole piece is one.  Personally I put pieces that must join together in parenthesis, then to the next such as (A + B + C) + D + (E + F) + G + H = 1

  1. Hi Laura - OMG I can't believe these are here! I first listened to "Hamilton" in December and I honestly have not listened to any other music since. I am completely, totally obsessed. I will be making every one of these patterns. Thanks for designing them!

  2. Hi - I'm so excited to make my own quilt blocks with these patterns! However, I found your pattern for the Hamilton Star Logo (20"x20") doesn't show where Block 'L' fits in the sewing sequence. I presume it is sewn to K? Please let me know if I am correct.
